How To Setup Pocket Radar with Onform

Getting started with Pocket Radar is simple, but requires a couple steps. Once setup, the Pocket Radar acts as a recording trigger within Onform so you can use it hands free to record your swing or pitch and see your velocity right on the Onform video.

What you'll need:

  • Pocket Radar Smart Coach with "PLUS" subscription ($5/month from Pocket Radar)
  • Onform version 4.1.4 or newer
  • Cellular or Wi-Fi internet connection

Step 1: enable connection

Open the Pocket Radar app and tap the 'More' menu icon and then tap 'Manage Connections' as shown below:

The tap on 'CONNECT' next to the Onform App icon.

Step 2: Access Pocket Radar Recording Mode in Onform

Open the Onform app and add a player as an individual with sport = Baseball or Softball. Tap into that player's workspace and tap the 'Library':

Now open the camera interface by tapping the Red 'Record' button within the player's Library

Step 3, connect Onform to Pocket Radar Cloud

Swipe the camera mode options to POCKET RADAR as shown below. Here you'll then tap on the text 'Pocket Radar Not Paired' option to enable Onform to connect with the Pocket Radar cloud.

Recording a swing or pitch

The two apps work nicely together, in normal usage, you'll open the Pocket Radar app, start a session, then switch over and open Onform in the foreground (the Pocket Radar app will be running in the background) and you record your hitter or pitcher using the Onform camera. There will NOT BE a recording button! Instead, the camera is triggered when the Pocket Radar Smart Coach recognizes a speed from a pitch or hit.

You might need to adjust the 'pre speed' and 'post speed' timing depending on your internet connection and what you are recording (hit vs. a pitch).

On the main screen of the PR app, tap 'Add New Session' and follow the prompts.. Once complete switch over to Onform.

Switching to Onform, you'll open the camera and be ready to record.. point the camera at a pitcher or hitter along with the Pocket Radar (easiest to simply mount them on a tripod) and when the PR recognizes and reports a speed, a recording will be automatically captured. You can select any recording resolution or FPS, use the Onform shutter speed controls to get amazing stop-motion video, and even use multiple cameras for capturing your players with multicam mode. You can adjust the length of video "before" and "after" the speed is sent through, in the example below, the video will result in a total of 6s, capturing 4s before the speed comes in and 2s after. Note that you can use either CON mode for the Pocket Radar or simply press the button when a pitch or hit happens to trigger the speed recording.

Speeds will be shown directly on the video!
